First Trip Overseas – Thailand
Within our home town, the people began to go to sea, seeking a better future becomes an everyday story. My brothers and sisters have escaped Vietnam and have settle in Australia. At the age of 10, going to join my brothers and sisters are my parents wish and also an exciting journey for me as I have never been on the big boat to the sea. I have only been on a river boat, cruising along a small river.
A 3 days journey out of Vietnam started very early in the morning, where I was guided with my sister who is only 4 years older than me. My parents have given us to our cousins who do know more about the trip and its plans. In brief, the first morning, we where chased by the Vietnam police, the first evening we were robbed by sea pirates, and another one on the second evening. Luckily they only took our golds and goods. By the third day, all our foods and drinks were out. I dont think that they have planed for that much food or drink in the first place.
The last fishing boat gave us just plain boil rice in water (congee) with soy sauce, i can still remember the taste of it now. It saves us from starvation.
We arrived at a small island, with the river boat front been smashed to pieces by ocean waves, the Thailand police and the people there took us in for the night and transfer us into main land the next day.
That is why Thailan, Phanat Nikhom is my first oversea trip.
